Public Tennis Courts Are Now Open

Important information for tennis court users:

• Private tennis lessons are not permitted.
• Tennis shoes are required.
• Foursomes shall be played when courts are crowded.
• Playing time shall be restricted to 1-hour periods when the courts are crowded.
• Do not retrieve the balls on adjacent courts when play is in progress.
• Courts are for Tennis or Pickleball use only.
• Persons using these courts do so at their own risk.
• No yelling on court or use of foul language.
• No winter maintenance on tennis courts and walkways.
• Surface may be slippery from ice and snow. Avoid use of tennis courts if surface is not suitable for play.

New Court Use Board Pilot Program at Berczy Park North Tennis & Pickleball Courts

The City of Markham is launching a Court Use Board Pilot Program at the Berczy Park North Tennis and Pickleball Courts to help make court access fair for everyone.

As more people play tennis and pickleball, especially during busy times, residents have shared concerns about court availability. To help more people enjoy the courts, Recreation Services is testing a new system where players will record their start time before playing and follow the posted court guidelines. 

How the Pilot Works

• Write your start time on the Court Use Board before you begin playing.
• If others are waiting, court time is limited to 60 minutes.
• Erase your entry when you leave the court.
• Be respectful and considerate of other players. 

The Court Use Board helps players see how long courts have been in use during busy periods. It is not a reservation system. Instead, it relies on the cooperation and honesty of all users to encourage fair access and shared use of the courts. 

Working Together

The success of this pilot depends on everyone following the guidelines and treating others with respect. City staff will not be on-site to monitor court use, so we ask all players to help create a positive and welcoming environment by sharing the courts fairly and being considerate of others who are waiting to play.

City Review

The demonstration period for this pilot program will go through to the end of the 2027 season.    

Recreation Services will review how well the pilot improves fairness and court access. This feedback will help the City decide if any changes or additional measures are needed in the future.
