Off-Leash Dog Parks

The City of Markham requires all dogs to be leashed at all times on public property or within City parks unless they are inside a designated Off-Leash Dog Park.

The City currently provides and maintains four permanent off-leash dog park areas, as well as pop-up locations throughout Markham. Every person accessing an off-leash dog park with their dog must comply with the Animal Protection and Services By-Law 2018-91, the Dog Owners’ Liability Act and the Off-Leash Dog Park Code of Conduct below.

For the safety and enjoyment of all visitors, dog handlers must follow these rules while using a City of Markham off-leash dog park:

• Every dog must be under the supervision and full control of an adult.
• All dogs are subject to health and tag inspections.
• All dogs must have an up-to-date vaccination against rabies.
• All dog parks are used at your own risk.
• Children under 12 years of age must be supervised by an adult at all times.
• Dogs exhibiting aggressive, intimidating or bullying behaviour are not permitted.
• Dogs must be accompanied by a person who is at least 16 years of age.
• Dogs must be leashed when entering and exiting the off-leash area.
• Handlers must remain inside the fenced area with their dogs at all times.
• Handlers must stoop and scoop and dispose of dog waste in the containers provided.
• Handlers must not be in control of more than three dogs at any time.
• Dog treats are not permitted inside the park.
• Glass containers and food are not permitted inside the off-leash area.
• The small-dog area is reserved for dogs weighing 20 pounds or less and measuring no more than 12 inches at the shoulder.
