Candidates Confirmed for Markham’s October Municipal Election

MARKHAM, ON — August 24, 2026 — Candidate registration for the 2026 Markham Municipal Election has now closed. City Clerk Kimberley Kitteringham has certified the full list of candidates for Markham’s City Council and local school board trustee offices, which is available on Elections Markham's website.

A total of 63 candidates have been certified, including:

• 3 for Mayor;

• 11 for Regional Councillor;

• 30 for Ward Councillor; and,

• 19 for School Board Trustee.

Markham voters are encouraged to learn about their candidates and local issues before voting this fall. Voters and permanent residents of Canada living in Markham who donate $50 or more to a City Council candidate can apply for a rebate from the City of Markham (some conditions apply).

From October 16 to 26, Markham voters will vote online for the offices of Mayor, Regional Councillor, Ward Councillor, and School Board Trustee. Voters can also vote at a voting place from October 23 to 26, or request a special ballot at Elections Markham Headquarters (Markham Civic Centre) starting September 28.

“Markham continues to modernize its municipal elections by breaking down barriers and making voting accessible to all voters,” says City Clerk Kimberley Kitteringham. “By delivering Canada’s longest-running remote online voting program, Elections Markham is providing a secure and accessible option for voters to have their say in the upcoming election.”

In early October, Elections Markham will send a personalized voter information letter with instructions on when and ways to vote to everyone who is registered on Markham’s municipal voters’ list. If someone doesn’t receive a voter information letter in the mail by October 16, they may not be registered at their current address or at all. Voters can check and update their registration status online, at the Markham Civic Centre, or at any voting place during voting days. 

By casting a ballot in the upcoming municipal election, Markham voters will play an important part in supporting democracy and help shape their city’s future.
